Hosni Mubarak is clueless! By not stepping down, he’s almost guaranteed violence and a difficult transition in Egypt. I also don’t see how Omar Suleiman can be part of a new government. Suleiman has been the head of Egypt’s secret police, the main perpetrator of “extraordinary renditions” under the Bush administration and an accused torturer. I think the U.S. is going to have to get behind someone like Mohamed ElBaradei. Yes, I know the Egyptian people should make their own choice, but it’s going to take a while until they can have free and fair elections, and until then, someone needs to form a caretaker government.  ElBaradei seems as good a choice as any, and Obama would be well served doing something bold here, and getting ahead of this Juggernaut.
